Pensejarahan Habsyah


Batu Ezana – Batu bersurat ini, terletak di padang dan baik di bawah permukaan tanah hari ini, dipercayai didirikan beberapa masa semasa bahagian separuh pertama abad keempat zaman kini oleh Raja Ezana dari Axum di kawasan yang kini dipanggil Habsyah.
Batu Ezana abad ke-4 Masihi mengandungi dual Ge'ez gaya Saba' dan suratan Yunani merakam kejayaan Raja Ezana dari Axum ke atas Kushi dari Meroe (di Sudan moden)[1]

Pensejarahan Habsyah merangkumi disiplin zaman purba, pertengahan, moden awal dan moden merakam sejarah Habsyah, termasuk kedua-dua sumber asli dan asing. Asal-usul penulisan sejarah Habsyah dapat disusur-galur ke Kerajaan Aksum purba (lebih kurang 100M – lebih kurang 940M). Teks awal ini ditulis sama ada dalam tulisan Ge'ez Habsyah atau abjad Yunani, dan memasukkan berbagai-bagai bahantara seperti naskhah dan suratan epigrafi pada stele dan obelisk agung mendokumenkan peristiwa sezaman. Penulisan sejarah menjadi genre yang sudah mantap dalam sastera Habsyah semasa dinasti Solomon awal (1270–1974). Pada tempoh ini, sejarah bertulis biasanya dalam bentuk biografi diraja dan babad dinasti, ditambah oleh sastera hagiografi dan sejarah sejagat dalam bentuk catatan sejarah. Mitologi Kristian menjadi unsur penting historiografi Habsyah zaman pertengahan disebabkan oleh karya seperti Kebra Nagast Ortodoks. Hal ini mengukuhkan tradisi pemerintah salasilah dinasti Solomon Habsyah, yang menegaskan bahawa mereka ialah keturunan Solomon, Raja Israel legenda.
