Etymology

The name Lower Philipstown is derived from Philipstown, the former name of Daingean.[1]

History

Lower Philipstown was roughly formed from the ancient tuaths; Tuath Rátha Droma and Tuath Cruacháin of the Uí Failge (O'Connor Faly).
